Location
“Villa Dhyan” is set on the steep ridge of the Ayung River in Sayan near the famous Four Seasons and Amandari resorts and offers stunning views of the Ayung River and the valley. It’s a short walk (about 70 meters) from the private covered parking area and the busy main road. In less than 10 minutes drive you reach the artists village of Ubud with its many art galleries, shops and excellent restaurants (e.g. Mozaic and Lamak), daily traditional dance performances, frequent cultural events and temple festivals. It’s about 40 minutes to Sanur or Denpasar, and about one hour to Bali’s international airport, Kuta and Legian. White water rafting on the Ayung River starts close-by, and the nearest beaches are about 30 minutes away.

The Villa
Built by the famous German painter Peter Dittmar about 20 years ago and renovated in 2004, this unique artist’s retreat is an excellent example of how traditional houses were built at that time with thatched roofs, open living areas and bedrooms with walls from woven rattan. Your reach the gate walking a narrow path from the main road, and inside the tropical garden you face several separate buildings. The main house accommodates on the ground floor a two-level living area with large sofas, several traditional sofa chairs and tables to enjoy the breath-taking view of the river below and the surroundings. On the ground floor is also a bathroom, and two staircases lead to the up-stairs master bedroom.

A square dining pavilion with a table for up to 6 guests is located next to the main house and close to the separate kitchen building and a studio (locked when Dittmar is in Sydney, in Munich or traveling) and a guest bedroom above. An additional guest cottage is set in the garden behind the main building next to the swimming pool.

The Bedrooms
The air-conditioned master bedroom above the living room in the main house can be accessed via a staircase from the ground-floor bathroom or via an outside staircase. It offers spectacular views of the Ayung River and the valley below. On the desk is a telephone & fax machine, and here you can connect your computer to the Internet. The air-conditioned bedroom Number 2 is located in a small traditional guest cottage with thatched roof behind the main house. It features a private open bathroom and a small terrace which overlooks the swimming pool and valley.

Bedroom Number 3 has been added in 2005 and is air-conditioned as well as fan-cooled and located above the painter’s studio, offering from its balcony a great view of the Ayung River and the surroundings. This bedroom has also a private bathroom.

Kitchen & Services
The open kitchen is located next to the dining pavilion and equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator, blender, glasses, crockery and cutlery, etc. The well-trained villa staff includes a cook to prepare delicious meals, a maid to clean the premises and handle your laundry, a gardener and security guard. All live near Villa Dhyan and are available whenever needed. All staff members wear uniform and name tags to make identification easy. Your air-conditioned car with a reliable driver is available up to 10 hours per day for excursions throughout the island or just to go shopping or for a meal in nearby Ubud.

The Villa
Griya Atma is a four bedroom villa. The name Griya Atma means “Abode of the Soul”. The villa is designed as a modern interpretation of Balinese traditional living, each room on ground floor opens on a wide patio. The Master bedroom faces the rice fields and the infinity swimming pool. It has en-suite bathroom with bathtub and an outdoor shower. It also has a indoor daybed. Two other bedrooms on ground floor face the swimming pool. Both have indoor and outdoor bathroom with showers. The fourth bedroom, on second floor faces other rice fields. It is also a study and has its own lounge with sofa and TV. It has en-suite bathroom with indoor shower. The dining / living room opens on the garden, the swimming pool and rice fields. A family room faces the back garden with a fish and turtle pond. Children love to play in the family room, in times of rain.

All rooms have air conditioning and fan. The kitchen is used for final preparation of the dishes before serving. It has a refrigerator, a microwave oven, and a water dispenser. The swimming pool is tiled with natural stones coming from Java. The Bale Bengong is a place where you can relax or get a traditional massage. The garden faces more than 1 km uninterrupted rice fields, with a small temple on the right side.

The Villa has been designed, built and is managed with the single purpose of your enjoying a wonderful and trouble free stay. The villas’ staffs include cook, waiters and room attendants, pool attendant and maintenance man, gardener, and night watchmen. The villa manager will welcome you upon arrival. She will visit you during your stay to check whether everything goes fine. You also call on her in case of a difficulty. The villas are fitted with modern facilities, telephone connection to all rooms as well as to kitchens, the office and security post, wired and wireless broadband internet and cable TV.

Note about broadband internet: please remember that you are in Bali and nothing goes at light speed here, internet connection is not an exception. Villa Alamanda is located in Ubud
An hour and fifteen minutes’ drive from Ngurah Rai international airport, Ubud is Bali’s centre for fine arts, dance and music; while the surrounding villages are home to Bali’s most accomplished painters, dancers, musicians and carvers. This remarkable town is encompassed by magnificent terraced rice fields, rivers, traditional villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples and palaces. It is located 300 metres above sea level in the foothills of the central mountain range; this gives it a fresher, more pleasant climate than the southern coastal regions.

The numerous art galleries in Ubud feature traditional and modern work; the museums showcase the island’s rich history, and the shops and the market stalls sell handicrafts, jewellery, woodcarvings, textiles, paintings and antiques. There are many, well-presented, cultural performances staged in the town, in particular the Hindu epic, the Ramayana; also the Kecak dance, the fire dance, the monkey dance and the Legong dance. The countryside around Ubud is particularly beautiful, with an abundance of trails offering memorable walks through the peaceful rice fields. The location is convenient for tours all over the island and is only a forty-minute drive from the coast.

Accommodations
Each of the four bedrooms features red-hued hardwood floors, double sliding glass and louvre doors that open onto the terrace, en-suite bathrooms, fitted wardrobes and safety deposit boxes.

The ‘Master Bedroom‘ is furnished in a contemporary style, enhanced by a bell jar ceiling lantern, Indonesian artefacts and paintings by local artists. Louvre doors lead into a dressing room, fitted with a chunky marble washbasin and teak cabinets and adjacent to the bathroom, with its marble bathtub and shower. The glassless windows in the bathroom allow the cool breezes to permeate, and provide lovely views of the main garden area and swimming pool bordering the river valley.

The ‘Red Room‘ is characterised by red accessories such as the lamps and paintings; and the ‘Cinnamon Room’ by the spicy-scented cinnamon stick arrangement in the vase above the bed. Both of these bedrooms feature a private garden bathroom with a marble bathtub surrounded by walls and leafy shrubs.

A separate thatched pavilion houses the ‘Garden Suite‘, a cosy bedroom that also doubles as air-conditioned lounge containing shelves of DVDs and books. The Garden Suite features an en-suite garden bathroom with a canopied bathtub.

A fully-equipped kitchen is behind the Garden Suite and is accessible from the car-parking area. There is so much attention to detail; even the water tower is decorated with fanciful carved flowers, dragonflies and birds.

An arched gateway with rustic Balinese doors marks the entrance to the beautiful garden, accessed by a dramatic flight of seventeen stone steps leading down from the car-park level. The garden is shaded by verdant jungle foliage and filled with an abundance of brightly coloured, sweet-scented tropical flowers and plants. A gnarled frangipani tree overhangs the enticing swimming pool; the water appears to cascade over the curved infinity edge into the backdrop of banana plants, bamboo, and towering coconut palms. A large relaxation gazebo, known as a ‘Bale Bengong’, is situated next to the pool and offers the comfort of cushioned daybeds. Sunloungers are positioned on the white Palimanan stone patio; hand-carved paras stone statues and garden lamps create a romantic ambience. The constant sound of the fast flowing Petanu River, as it carves its way through the steep gorge below, is accompanied by the melody of birdsong and cicadas.

Like many others, we fell in love with the ‘Island of the Gods’ and her people and feel very privileged to have been able to lease from the local owners, the land on which to build this peaceful haven.

The Location
Villa Awang Awang is a 50 minutes drive from the airport and is situated in the cool highlands 5km from Ubud – famous for its fine art galleries, restaurants and rich cultural life. The 10 minute drive is through stunning scenery of lush ricefields, mountains and the sacred volcano Gunung Agung towering in the distance.

The House
The villa is designed by Balinese architect Ir. Ida Bagus Wiadnyana according to ancient traditions with the correct alignments toward the Holy Mountain. Traditional materials are used throughout to harmonize with the environment – alang alang thatched roofing, hand-made terracotta floor-tiles, stone and marble, all crafted by local artists. The house is cooled by fans and natural cross breezes over water gardens. Entry is via the traditional Balinese gate-way protected by stone guardians and along a garden path through tranquil lotus and water-lily filled fish ponds. Antique Javanese doors open onto the main living area with its soaring alang alang roof and spectacular views from the open terrace.

Bedrooms
Antique Javanese doors open from the living area to three bedrooms. The main bedroom contains a queen-sized bed made from old teak wood and an antique Javanese batik table. A dressing room leads to the marble bathroom and outdoor garden shower. The second bedroom has an antique Javanese queen-sized bed while the third contains two single beds. A large terrazzo and marble bathroom with a deep tub, outdoor shower and double vanity is shared between the two rooms.

Lower Level
Stairs lead down to the open dining-area, with views across the lush valley. The dining table is constructed from sections of an antique Javanese house and comfortably seats up to 10. The kitchen has granite bench-tops and is well equipped with a refrigerator, oven, gas cook-top and modern appliances and utensils. Antique Javanese doors lead to the fourth bedroom which contains a queen-sized bed and a marble/terrazzo en-suite. Sliding glass doors open onto the terrace.

Bottom Level
Steps lead down to the sun-deck and the infinity edge swimming pool with its stunning backdrop of tropical forest.

Furnishings
The house contains many unique pieces of antique furniture from Java and Lombok and is decorated with traditional weavings, carvings, statues and antique shadow puppets. There is a television, CD player, VCR, DVD and a small collection of CD’S and books.

Night Life
World-famous music and dance performances, jazz cafes and fine restaurants are just 10 minutes away – at the villa we can only offer you the sounds of nature, the cascading river, frogs croaking, crickets chirping and the scent of frangipani and night jasmine. Due to the open plan of the house, you may see the glimmer of a fire-fly, hear the call of our beautiful blue and pink spotted Tokay who resides in the roof or receive the occasional visit from a frog. If you are not ‘creature-friendly’ this may not be the place for you.

The Village and Staff
The villa is part of the village of Melayang and our guests are always warmly welcomed at the many temple ceremonies. Staff can assist you with the sarong and sash required to attend ceremonies.
As in all Balinese houses, the Gods have their home within our home. Every morning our local priest presents offerings to the Gods both inside the house and at the various house temples in the garden.
All our staff are from Melayang or the adjacent village of Bintang Kuning, (Yellow Star.) They are also accomplished carvers, painters and musicians.
